Swiss Authorities Confirm Teenagers Aged 14\u201317 Among Victims of Fatal New Year\u2019s Fire at Crans-Montana Bar<\/p>\n

Police in Switzerland\u2019s Valais canton announced Sunday that several teenagers, including victims as young as 14 and 15, were among those killed in the deadly fire that swept through a crowded bar at the Crans-Montana ski resort during New Year\u2019s celebrations.<\/p>\n

The latest update brings the number of identified victims to 24 out of an estimated 40 deaths, with more than 100 others injured. Sixteen additional victims have now been formally identified, and their bodies returned to families.<\/p>\n

Among the newly confirmed victims are:
\n– a 14-year-old Swiss national,
\n– two 15-year-olds,
\n– two 16-year-olds and one 17-year-old from Switzerland,
\n– two 16-year-old Italian nationals,
\n– one 16-year-old with dual nationality.<\/p>\n

Nine of the 16 newly identified victims were minors under the age of 18.<\/p>\n

The presence of so many young people in a venue that was packed for New Year\u2019s festivities has prompted serious questions about whether adequate age verification measures were in place. As the investigation continues, the revelations have deepened shock and grief in the Crans-Montana community, where many of the deceased were among its youngest members.<\/p>\n

Tributes Grow Outside Le Constellation Bar as Investigation Targets Management<\/p>\n

That same day, police in Valais canton announced a criminal investigation into the bar\u2019s managers on suspicion of negligent manslaughter, negligent bodily harm, and negligent arson. One of the bar\u2019s co-owners has previously insisted that \u201ceverything was done according to the rules.\u201d<\/p>\n

Swiss federal law permits the sale of beer and wine to individuals aged 16 and older, while spirits may only be sold to those 18 and above, according to the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).<\/p>\n

In Valais canton, local regulations allow minors under 16 to enter venues serving alcohol after 10 p.m. only if accompanied by a legal guardian or an adult explicitly authorized by the guardian. Police confirmed the fire broke out at approximately 1:30 a.m.<\/p>\n

Amid mounting shock over the ages of many victims, Swiss Confederation President Guy Parmelin described those lost as young people \u201cfull of plans, hope and dreams.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
